In case you didn’t think things were terrible enough already in the world, Martin Joseph Blake admitted in court to raping his 12-year-old daughter on “multiple occasions.”
The Montana man was sentenced to 30 years in prison, but Judge John C. McKeon suspended the 30 years. Instead, Blake will register as a sex offender, spend 60 days in jail (with credit for 17 days served), and will be put on probation.
Judge McKeon defended the light sentence as “quite restrictive,” and said it was appropriate because Blake has support from family and the community.
Blake’s defense attorney said, “I’m not asking that he be given a slap on the wrist. He did spend 17 days in jail, and he did lose his job.”
The victim’s mother and grandmother agreed with the ruling, saying his two sons would be “devastated if their dad was no longer a part of their lives.”
The victim’s lack of support from the court has led to petitions calling for Judge McKeon’s impeachment. This is unbelievable.
